A helping hand for employees

The ‘Helping Hand’ is designed to assist employers bring new employees into their business.

Recruiting, managing, training and retaining staff is a key component of operating a successful business. Given that every business is different, and each new project presents different challenges in staffing, there is a range of options available to employers designed to provide the appropriate employees and employment solutions.

The Helping Hand is a guide for employers in the Geelong region. It arises from the G21 Geelong Regional Strategic Alliance Skills Taskforce and concerns about skill shortages in this region. More and more employers are confronted with the issue of an ageing population and how this will impact on their workforce.

Australian Qualifications Framework

The training system:
• Certificate I
• Certificate II
• Certificate III
• Certificate IV
• Diploma
• Advanced Diploma


Certificate I and II recognise basic vocational skills and knowledge.

Certificates III and IV largely replace the outdated category of trade certificates.

The distinguishing features of the Diploma and Advanced Diploma Certificates is they build on Certificate IV providing recipients with highly specialised technical skills and knowledge.
